Part 1 of 4: Soul Flower Tour

From the Soul Flower Archives: This post originally shared a behind-the-scenes look at our former Soul Flower warehouse in St. Paul, Minnesota. A lot has changed since these photos were taken, but we love looking back at the spaces, people and little details that helped shape Soul Flower. We’re keeping this peek into our past as part of our story.

If you’ve spent some time exploring the Soul Flower blog, you may have come across an even earlier post about our warehouse. Soul Flower has grown and changed many times over the years, and this tour captures one particular chapter in that journey.

At the time, our warehouse was in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was where products arrived, orders were picked and packed, customer notes covered the walls, music played all day and a small crew kept everything moving.

Come take a look around.

Framed Soul Flower catalogs and concert posters lining the hallway of the former warehouse

One of our favorite spots was what we called the Soul Flower hall of fame. Previous Soul Flower catalogs were framed along the wall beside some of our favorite concert and band posters.

The hallway was also filled with Soul Flower memorabilia and handwritten notes from customers. We’ve always loved hearing from our buds, and back then many of those notes ended up proudly displayed on the walls.

Shelf of CDs used for music in the former Soul Flower warehouse

Music has always been part of the Soul Flower vibe. This shelf held a collection of favorite CDs so there was almost always something playing while we worked.

Boxes and merchandise arriving at the former Soul Flower warehouse

Merchandise arrived at the warehouse through an old-school elevator lift. On busy delivery days, boxes would pile up waiting to be unpacked, checked and sorted onto the shelves.

You can also spot stacks of cardboard waiting to be recycled. Reusing and recycling shipping materials was already an important part of how we worked.

Here it is, the main warehouse room in all its glory. Shelves and shelves of Soul Flower goods were organized by product so orders could be picked quickly and accurately. Old tapestries brightened up the walls, because even a warehouse deserves a little personality.

There was even a separate temperature-controlled room for accessories, body balms and soaps. It doubled as a lunch room where the crew could take a break, eat and, naturally, listen to more music.

The corners of the warehouse held some pretty important stuff. Extra inventory lived in large storage tubs, while boxes, envelopes and recycling bins filled another area.

Thinking about waste and materials has been part of Soul Flower for a long time. Today you can learn more about the materials, processes and values behind our products in our Soul Flower Eco Guide.

Last but not least, this was where the packing happened. Orders were gathered, checked, packed and prepared to head out the door to Soul Flower customers around the country.

Looking back, we love how much this old warehouse reflected the personality of Soul Flower at the time. Customer notes on the walls, music in the background, colorful products everywhere and a small crew doing a little bit of everything.

The warehouse and the team have changed over the years, but this remains a fun glimpse into an earlier chapter of Soul Flower history.

Peace & love,
Your buds at Soul Flower
