clock 3 640x430 - On Becoming a Time Lord

On Becoming a Time Lord

Time: The seeming progression of moments across experience. I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of time, the measurement of time, the notion of the here and now, the idea of infinity. Mostly I prefer to live in the present moment. I feel tuned in, engaged, alive. (more…)

Dragonfly Medicine

It was a beautiful evening on the river. The sun was beginning its colorful descent, birds were soaring above, and stillness infused the space around us. “Look over there,” he said. We noticed two dragonflies dancing above the water, twirling so freely. We sat in silence for a few moments, just taking in their presence. (more…)

Bonnaroo – Back to My Roots

Bonnaroo is not simply a home away from home. For me, Bonnaroo is home. I feel more content and comforted on the farm than anywhere else.  A 700 acre farm with over 80,000 people expressing and reveling in their love for freedom, peace, happiness, and music is hard to top. (more…)

Philadelphia Dumpster Divers: Trash Artists

What is upcycling? Simply put, upcycling is taking something of lessor value (generally unwanted, discarded materials and objects) and altering it in such a way that its value and usefulness is enhanced. Enter the Philadelphia Dumpster Divers, a group of trash and found object artists whose motto (penned by founder Neil Benson) is “Trash is simply a failure of imagination.” (more…)

We’re Made of Stars

I have always been fascinated by the night sky. Stars twinkling against a backdrop of darkness, with the moon leading the way to a mysterious life all its own. Even with the magical offerings of the night, I rarely step outside to appreciate its beauty.

Flying Solo

Over the past several years, attending music festivals has lead me to notice just how much social media stifles our independence. We tend to forget about ourselves, the moment, and the significance of living within it. I believe it’s important to stay connected with people as much as possible, but I also think it’s beneficial to fall off the map every now and again. (more…)

Positive Messages & Poetry Month

Where I live in rural Northwestern Connecticut, the snow has finally melted. I saw the first promise of new life and growth yesterday in the form of a white and yellow crocus opening into bloom, and today I can walk around barefoot without my toes freezing. Birds chirp all morning and the spring peepers are out at night.   (more…)

Let Your Love Grow

I’m definitely no stranger to major life changes. Coming back to my homeland after a decade on the mystical island of Bali was something I never could have prepared for. Everything I knew about myself – and life – seemed to transform as I stepped off that plane. (more…)

Dreamcatcher Origins – Sweet Dreams

“Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be.” ~Karen Ravn

If you’re a vivid dreamer, you probably have a fascination with the visions that visit you each night. Dreams can linger with us throughout the day and captivate us for hours, days, even years. Sometimes they’re so convincing we need to ask ourselves, did that happen? Did I do that, say that, live that? If you’ve ever possessed a dreamcatcher, you might even believe it’s possible to control the dreams that come to you.

dreams1 - Dreamcatcher Origins - Sweet Dreams
Originating with the Ojibwa (Chippewa) Tribe, dreamcatchers are in many homes today. It is believed that a dreamcatcher will filter good dreams through the web, while ensnaring the bad. A dreamcatcher is supposed to be placed near the bed in a spot that sunlight will reach. When the first rays of morning light hit the web, the trapped nightmares dissipate to nothing.

Actually, the dreamcatcher’s entire design is tied to the ideals of Earth, Air, Water and Fire.

Tie-Dye Sun Tapestry

Earth holds our dreams within her all-embracing hoop

Air carries our dreams to us (the feathers on a dreamcatcher are also symbolic of air).

Water is believed to wash and separate our wanted dreams from the unwanted.

Fire burns away nightmares with its powerful blaze.

Commonly made of willow and sinew strands, the dreamcatcher is woven in a web-like manner that is much like the method used for snowshoe webbing.   Sometimes a dreamcatcher can have one or more beads: One bead is symbolic of the spider who wove your protective web, while several beads can represent the many sweet dreams that have been brought to you.

Soul Flower’s all about good vibes; we appreciate everything the dreamcatcher stands for. We have a few cool dreamcatchers to choose from. jewelry wise, we have the Sweet Dream Earrings and the gorgeous Dreamcatcher Necklace, and to match, there’s our Dreamcatcher Organic Tank or Longsleeve Tee. We figure it couldn’t hurt to wear a dreamcatcher all the time, perhaps it will guard against negative daytime thoughts – work as a reminder to catch yourself and think positive!
